Excursion destinations in the area
RAX – In the footsteps of the “Raxking”
The ride leads towards Höllental in the Falkenstein / Schwarzau Nature Park in the mountains. A petting zoo and a deer enclosure with red deer and chamois invite you to linger. In Naßwald we visit the memorial site of the “Raxkönig” Georg Hubmer, lumber master and builder of the then longest tunnel in Austria. After highing through the wild and romantic Höllental valley, you will reach the valley station of the 1926 Rax cable car in Hirschwang. After arriving at the Rax High Plateau, we walk towards the Otto-Haus at about 1,600 m above sea level through the “Alpengarten Rax”, in which more than 200 strictly protected alpine plant species are cultivated and maintained. Once back in the valley there are still interesting facts to learn from numerous attractions in Reichenau. At the end of the excursion, you will visit the confectionery Alber, which is famous for its award-winning baked goods.

Above Prigglitz and Sieding the tour goes to the station Puchberg, to „climb” the Schneeberg with the „Salamander“ train. A pleasurable stopover is worthwhile at the Baumgartner. Here you can try the well-known „Schneebergwuchteln” (a local baked good). Once we’ve arrived at the mountain railway station, the full beauty of the surrounding mountains presents itself. Immediately next to the train station is the Elisabeth Church, which was built in 1901 by Emperor Franz Josef I in memory of his wife Elisabeth.

Further highlights on the estate in Kernhof are the high-tech comic bear show, the extravagant restaurant “Don Kamelo” and the Sepp-Forcher observation tower. Anna Mahonie runs the first Süßmeisterei in Austria in a loving ambience. In the old train station in St. Aegyd on the Traisentalbahn the seasoned Wahl-Mostviertlerin lovingly crafts sweet temptations: pralines, Wuchteln, Waldbeerschnitten or Göllerspitzen … Their specialty: Brandteig swans with open beak – you just have to let them melt on your tongue!
